about

Welcome to my website, I'm Insha Khan — your go-to communications strategist! News releases, feature stories, blog posts, you name it and I know how to write it. I take care and creativity in crafting all of my pieces. I received my training from the highly selective USC Annenberg M.A. in Public Relations and Advertising. I've honed my communications skills with mentorship from the most awarded PR professionals in the country. I'm here to tell stories that will compel an audience through emotion and connection. To me, this career is a commitment to engaging and ethical communication that reflects an evolving reality.
pUBLIC SPEAKING ORIGIN STORY
My love for communication began with the spark of public speaking. I've been giving speeches from my elementary school days of "Chatters and Blabbers" to my (slightly embarrassing) high school TEDx talk. In my undergrad, I served my campus as a public speaking consultant for our department's Center for Communication Skills. Speaking directly to an audience is the most challenging approach but it teaches the fundamental tools of how to deliver a message. I enjoy helping others develop this skill so they can share their perspectives with the world.
Purpose + perspective
Growing up as a person of color, it can be hard to see yourself represented in media. But I've taken on the mission to share my story as a visibly Muslim American. The title of my very first informative speech? All About the Abaya. The subject of my TEDx talk? Fear, identity, and the symbolism of the hijab. The theme of my fashion blog? Intersecting style, modesty, and culture. These are just a few examples of how I bring purpose and perspective to my projects. I'm currently working at the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative to study Muslim representation in media and create more accurate portrayals of my community. I aim to use communication as a vessel for meaningful storytelling.
social media + community
One of my favorite storytelling tools is social media. For 4 years, I had a one-woman fashion blog where I would style outfits, take photos, write blog posts, develop Instagram content, and share sponsored product reviews. I've pivoted these skills to managing social media communities for others, including the CSULB Communication Studies Department and a small business called The Dua Journal. I enjoy watching a community grow through organic, authentic interaction. I recently had the opportunity to dip into the influencer relations side of this industry with an internship at Society 18, a boutique influencer agency aimed at filling the diversity gap in social media representation.
